Ok, so I have a few pre-Mattel dolls, post-Mattel dolls, and the brand spankin new dolls of today. So I am able to make some fair notices on the differences.

Older dolls have wigs that are a bit different, overall they are thinner strands and are not as shiny, more of a dull look. PM dark brown hair is darker than new dark brown hair. PM Kirsten has ash blond hair, new Kirsten has shiney golden blond hair. Mollys of today have darker brown hair than the PM ones as well.

Older dolls have a creamier (a bit more opaque I guess) complexion, although the new dolls today have a beautiful peachy complexion.

Older dolls stand shorter than the new dolls today, the new dolls are pretty tall now-a-days.

Older dolls have limbs that are fatter and their bodies a bit wider.

The eyes and faces have also changed through the years. PM Kirsten has lighter blue eyes, PM Felicity has more muted green eyes. PM face shapes are more rounded, Post-Mattel,(late 90s) show some slimming of the face, and the new dolls seem to vary a bit. Eyes seem to be a bit smaller and more closely set in the new dolls today.

    My overall view:

Love PM Felicity only because I didn't like the bright green eyes of the Mattel ones. Although the hair on Mattel ones are much nicer than PM ones, so silky!

I like Mattel wigs much much more than the PM wigs, they just are much more shiny and are silkier all over.

Like how the new dolls are taller, and how their feet aren't as fat as PM dolls.

New dolls have a "pinchier" looking face to me because their eyes are set a bit closer now.

So my conclusion is that I do not prefer one over the other, every doll has it's own feature that is better or nicer than this one or that. You just have to find which one you like more.

Thanks for the info! You mentioned that the older dolls have chubbier arms! I just noticed that today! I have a Josephina doll that I got when she first came out. I have her on display with all my newer historicals. I have always thought she looked chubbier than all the other dolls, but figured it was just the way her out fit fitted her. Then today, I finally decided to compare them, and sure enough her arms are chubbier! Then I saw you post and that just reasured what I discovered, I wasn't seeing things! Thanks!
